The Croatian Law system is largely influenced by German and Austrian law systems. It is significantly influenced by the Civil Code of the Austrian Empire from 1811, identified in Croatia as “General Civil Law” (“Opći građanski zakon”). By this law, OGZ was declared invalid as a complete, but the implementation of some of its legal rules was approved. During the post-War era Law news, the Croatian authorized system turn out to be influenced by components of the socialist law. Croatian civil law was pushed apart, and it took norms of public law and authorized regulation of the social possession. After Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia on 25 June 1991, the earlier legal system was used as a base for writing new legal guidelines.
